In the team's effort to become a more competitive program, Pierre added Winter Break Training Trips to Miami as part of the winter training regimine. As of the spring season Alicia moved on.
As the spring season began John and Corinne moved on and Pierre Morita was recruited as the next and current Head Coach. Rebecca Ralph began coaching in the spring. At the end of the spring season Aaron left for school in Florida.
Aaron Ranstrom began coaching the novice team. In the spring Hofstra returned to Dad Vails with 3 boats, the Men's 4+, the Women's Lwt 4+, and the Women's 2-. In the fall Alicia Tornincaso, a Hofstra rower, began coaching the novice after her graduation.
After Ian graduated from Grad school, the team recruited a former Loyola rower, John Sadowski as head coach in the spring. John in turn recruited Corinne Pergolis, as women's coach, another Loyola grad and the coaching staff began to build again. In the spring the Varsity Women won the silver medal at State Championships. In the fall 2 medals were won. The women won a gold medal and PJ Antonik won a gold in the Men's Single at Dowling Regatta.
Ian Butterfield returned to Hofstra for Grad School and as rower/coach helped get the team refocused and moving forward.
LTC Arata was reassigned to West Point in the fall of 1998 where he rejoined the Crew team there. Brian Brazina took over as a student coach for a season.
In the spring Brendan could only coach on weekend's so current rower Mike Wagner began to help out as an Assistant coach during the weekdays. A few weeks later, LTC Steven Arata joined the team as head coach. LTC Arata was the Head of the Military Science department at Hofstra and a former crew coach for Army while stationed at West Point. When Mike graduated, he began working fulltime at Hofstra and has helped out as the team's Faculty advisor.
In the early spring Andy helped revived the Hofstra Crew Club and recruited new coach Ellen, a former coxswain from Manhattan College. In the fall three new coaches were recruited, Scott and Jim, two former rowers from the University of Delaware, and Brendan Carroll, a Hofstra Grad and former rower. At the end of that fall, Scott and Jim, moved on while Brendan stayed and kept the program going.
Due to lack of interest the Hofstra Crew Club was defunct as of winter 1993.
The team returned in 1991 to compete in the Head of the Charles in the Men's Lightweight 8+ and the Women's Club 8+ as well as the Dad Vail Regatta with three boats, a Men's Lwt 4+ and 8+ and a Women's N4+.
Andy Kraus took over coaching the team. The team competed at the Head of the Charles in 1990 for the first time in the Men's Lwt 4+. Hofstra attended Dad Vail Regatta for the first time with two boats, both Novice Men's 4+. Dodie Zimmer, a graduate of Hofstra and former rower, joined the team as an assistant coach. Andy coached the team until winter 1993.
Sixto Portilla coached the team until leaving for the Peace Corps. He has since competed in the Men's Lightweight 1x. He was in the 2003 USRowing National Championship Regatta and 2003 US World Trials.
Mark Greiz and Roger Baxley started Hofstra Crew. Together with John Kruiger they began the work of creating a rowing team. They began rowing under coach Jim Long who brought them to Sagamore to row. Their were several other rowers who filled the fourth seat in that first boat. And each day they would search the dorms for someone to cox the four the following morning. Initially the team purchased a bowloader 4+ to train and row in, but it proved a difficult boat to learn in. SGA funded the purchase of a new Hudson 4+. After Jim Long left Mike O'Leary began coaching the team and it began to grow and included a women's 4+ and two men's 4+'s.
